Bone Grafting & Jaw Bone Reconstruction

After losing teeth, it is natural that the bone in the area thins out rapidly and lose density and height as well. Thus, placement of implants becomes impossible in some cases requiring augmentation of the area with either the patient’s own bone or processed cadaver bone. Such procedures take detailed planning and needs experience in such delicate and complex technique for successful outcome. The concept of bone graft is to place either a tailored and customized block of bone or powdered bone in a deficient area to restore the original bone quantity for placement of implants. This can be a small area or the entire upper and lower jaw. Depending on the severity of bone loss and defect, the source of bone could be from other parts of the jaw or in extreme cases the bone source can be the hip or knee. This type of bone grafting belongs to the specialty of oral and maxillofacial surgeons. The general dentists have no training, experience in harvesting bone from jaw or hip for such uncompromising reconstruction requirements.

Dr. Hajarian has been performing bone graft and rehabilitation of the lost jaw bones for over 20 years with thousands of cases with satisfactory outcome.
